Inventor Andy Fritz can be justly proud of his rebreather which handles almost like an open circuit single tank                           İRebreather Lab

Dive Centers, Clubs & Organisations

Rebreather Lab
The Pelagian is a nicely-breathing mCCR that amazingly almost handles like a single tank open circuit rig. We've been upside down on this rig without noticeable changes in WOB! Resident genius Andy has designed a very safe rebreather, in the right hands, with the right training and with the right mindset. Quality is very, very high and this rebreather still has a 100% safety record. In fact, it still hasn't even had a close call.
Speleotech
Canadian cave explorer legend Bil Phillips runs this extremely tidy operation which in our humble opinion is as good as it gets for cave diving training. Period. It is extremely rare to find a patient, talented  and humble instructor such as Bil, who combines a true gift for teaching with the experience of a cave diver who deservedly is a member of the legendary Explorer's Club in New York.
Project AWARE Foundation
The biggest diver training organisation in the world founded this hugely important organization in 1989. It became a separate non-profit entity in 1992. They do a lot of good to preserve the underwater environment, e.g. underwater cleanups and coral reef conservation. Please support them generously!
TekGuru at Werner Lau
Aaron Bruce is yet another instructor who has impressed us. He can offer technical courses at many different levels from basic to Instructor and on unusually many different rebreathers if you're interested, including the Pelagian. Aaron is very thorough and another of these rare tekkies who besides diving well personally, actually do know how to teach the same skills properly to others as well.

A solid British alternative to DAN, underwritten by Lloyd's of London.

Rawai Beach Guesthouse
We've loved this little boutique guesthouse, beautifully situated near scenic Phromthep Cape in Rawai ever since our first visit a few years ago. It is remarkably good value for money and Pete and his wife Gib are gracious hosts. Book early, directly through their web site. They only have four lovely air-con rooms and they are therefore often full, mainly due to savvy repeaters.
Natural Restaurant, Phuket Town
This landmark restaurant, also known as 'Thamachat', in the Chinese centre of Phuket Town has been running strongly for almost 15 years. The food is an eclectic mix from all imaginable Thai regions, prices are very reasonable and the setting is absolutely unique. A huge hit with both Thai, expats and tourists all.
2gether Guesthouse and Restaurant
This reasonably priced and centrally-located guesthouse is run by the amiable Chrille from Sweden. Rooms are good value in this neighbourhood. The restaurant comes highly recommended as well!

All recommendations are based on our personal opinions and are intended to help you, the visitor to Phuket. We pay and receive no commission for linking to anybody on this page!

How to fly by air to Phuket!
Airport Bus Phuket
If you are on a budget, this is by far the cheapest way to get from the Airport to Phuket Town. Sadly, the buses don't run all that frequently or all that late, but when during the day they are a great option to airport limousines and taxis.

Air Asia (and Thai Air Asia)
Asia's largest largest low price, no-frills airline deservedly won the Skytrax World's Best Low-Cost Airline Award in 2010. Phuket is one of its hubs, so you can fly direct with Air Asia from - and also to - Hong, Kong, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Jakarta, Bali and the Thai cities of Bangkok,Chang Mai and Udon Thani. Through Bangkok, of course, and Air Asia's numerous daily flights to Phuket, you are connected through a wealth of airlines to almost any major city in the world.
Qatar Airways
The flag carrier of Qatar is one of only six airlines in the world to receive the coveted 5-star rating by Skytrax. This autumn Qatar Airways inaugurated its soon almost daily flights to Phuket from its gigantic hub in Doha (through Kuala Lumpur). Phuket is now Qatar Airways second destination in Thailand.
Malaysia Airlines
The flag carrier of Malysia is also among the six airlines carrying the coveted 5-star rating by Skytrax. Malaysia Airlines flies direct to to Phuket daily from the state-of-the-art and relaxed KL International Airport (KLIA) in Malaysia.
Silk Air
This wholly-owned subsidiary of Singapore Airlines flies daily from the famous ultra-modern Changi International Airport to Phuket.
Thai Airways
Phuket is a focus city for the great Thai flag carrier with the legendary hospitality. Thai Air flies daily to Phuket from many destinations, not least several times a day from Bangkok.
Bangkok Airways
This pleasant boutique airline flies direct from Phuket to Bangkok and Koh Samui. It also flies direct to Siem Rep in Cambodia, so this is probably the fastest and most comfortable way to see the great site of Angkor Wat from Phuket.
Tiger Airways (and Thai Tiger Airways)
This partly-owned subsidiary of Singapore Airlines has flown to Phuket ever since 2004. The new Thai Tiger Airways joint venture with Thai Airways is sure to increase the availability of direct flights to Phuket further.

The above is merely a small selection of airlines supporting Phuket directly. Many, many more, including e.g. TUIfly Nordic and Finnair also fly direct to Phuket from Scandinavia and Finland. Australians and Kiwis have a great choice, including V Australia and Pacific Blue Airlines, as well as - in February 2011 - Strategic Airlines.
